Blue Spring and the Te Waihou Walkway are a must-see when visiting the Waikato region. The crystal clear spring near Putaruru supplies around 60% of the country’s bottled water. The spring is fed from the Mamaku Plateau and has been filtered for about 100 years. The water is pure and clean, you can actually see the bottom of the spring. There is absolutely no swimming allowed in the spring but visiting it for the walk is quite a treat. The Te Waihou Walkway winds alongside the river and through the wetlands and native bush. It would take about 3 hours return to walk the 4.7km track from Whites Road. A shorter, 15-minute walk is available from Leslie Road, which would take you straight to the Blue Spring. The walk is easy with defined paths and boardwalks in the wetland area.
